Question

How do I find the spring forces in order to create a F vs Distance graph for my lab? I tried f=ma (a=9.8) but I don't think that's right so I deleted that.

Part 1 (Hooke's Law): Data Table A: Mass (kg) Spring Force Position (m) 1.964E-3 m 2.720E-4 m Time (s) 0.05 kg 0.1 kg 0.2 kg 0.3 kg 0.4 kg 0.5 kg 0.6 kg 0.7 kg 0.8 kg 0.9 kg 1.0 kg 0 N(Force is 1.0310s negated) 37.0310 s 54.8430s 68.9000 s 84.1343 s 110.4814 s 131.8430 s 150.2017 s 172.5000 s 248.8430 s 285.8000 s -1.448E-3 m 5.088E-3 m 0.014 m 0.021 m 0.032 m 0.041 m 0.047 m 0.056 m 0.064 m

Explanation / Answer

Here you can determine spring force as

F = mg

m is the mass and g is the acceleration due to gravity . [ G = 9.8 m/s2]

And for determining spring constant , you should proceed as :

F = Kx

K = F/x = mg/x [ x is the extension of spring]
