Question

Could you help me solve this physics problem?

please have the writing neatly, or typed, thank you by a lot!!!!!

You know that your usual rowing speed is 8.7 x 102 meters per minute that is, your speed with respect to the water. Today, you decide to row across a 1.00 km wide river that has straight, parallel banks and a uniform current (flowing parallel to its banks). You point your boat straight across (perpendicular to the current) and you reach the other bank 2.1 × 102 meters downstream of where you started. What is the velocity of the current? How long did it take you to get across?

Explanation / Answer

rowing speed is all the time to cross the width.

t = d / v = (1 x 10^3 m) / (8.7 x 10^2 m/ 60 s )

t = 68.97 sec

along the stream,

v_stream t = 2.1 x 10^2

v ( 68.97) = 210

v = 3.04 m/s .........Ans (Velociy of current)

t = 69 sec ......Ans
