Question

You have been asked to use your modeling skills to make recommendations for how to increase the population size of a threatened leafhopper species. You build a simulation with two key parameters, A and B. You conduct a sensitivity analysis by systematically varying the two parameters' values. Results are shown below. If the field ecologists have only sufficient resources to evaluate one of these parameters in the real world, which do you recommend they target as more important? Parameter A is more important to evaluate. Parameter B is more important to evaluate. Both parameters are equally important to evaluate. Neither parameter warrants any further evaluation.

Explanation / Answer

Answer:
b) Parameter B is more important to evaluate:

The aim of the model to be prepared is to increase the population of a threatened species. Out of the two parameters, Parameter A is giving a fairly steady response, between 50-75, even after varying the values of the same. On the other hand, with the variation of Parameter B values, there have been drastic differences seen from as low as less than 25 to as high as almost 100. There are drastic changes seen in the values of Parameter B , also giving a virtually 100 population size increase, which is more favorable for the aim of the model.
So it is more important to test the efficacy of the Parameter B in the real world in order to achieve the desired aim.
