Question
Please provide with a good explanation and clear handwriting for this question! I got confused
2) A student takes the following three masses 5 g 50 g 75 g and using exactly the same string, and exactly the same swing size, measures the period for each resulting pendulum. The results show that the 5g mass had the smallest period and the 75g had the largest period. However the difference between the largest and smallest periods was very small (only a few percent). The Pl mistakenly concludes that mass does change the period of a pendulum. Give at least one possible mistake the student made in their procedure that led to this erroneous conclusion.Explanation / Answer
As we can see that 75 gm mass is larger in size than 5 gm. Its cross-sectional area is also large in comparison to cross sectional area of 5 gm mass. We know that air drag faced by any body in motion depend on the area of that body.
Therefore it would get a large amount of air drag than 5 gm mass. Due to this air drag a damping force will arise at the bob of the pendulum which will cause the time period of the pendulum to increase by a fractional amount.
