Having some trouble with these problems!
1. A cellular telephone transmits electromagnetic waves at a frequency of 935 MHz. What is the wavelength of these waves? (Ans: .321m) Unpolarized light with an average intensity of 750.0 W/m2 enters a polarizer with a vertical transmission axis. The transmitted light then enters a second polarizer. The light that exi second polarizer is found to have an average intensity of 125 W/mz. What is the orientation a of the second polarizer relative to the first one? Note that the intensity of unpolarized light is halved when passing through a polarizer. (Ans: 54.7 degrees) 2. ts the ngleExplanation / Answer
= c/f = 3*108/(935*106) = 0.321 m
When unpolarized light runs through a polarizer, its intensity is halved. Thus, after going through the first polarizer, the intensity will be.
I0 = 750/2 = 375 W/m2
Then, the polarized light goues through another polarizer, and the formula to apply is
I = Iocos2
(125) = (375)(cos2)
cos = [ 125 / 375 ]
from this the orientation angle of the second polarizerrelative to the first one is = cos -1 ([125/ 375 ] )
= 54.73 degree
