Where would you place the object to obtain an image located at the focal length of the lens (100 mm)?

Explanation / Answer

(a) f= 100 mm

image distance= infinity

using mirror formula

1/f= 1/di+1/do

1/100= 1/infinity + 1/do

1/100+0= 1/do

do = 100 mm

so object distance= 100 mm.

(b) f= 100mm

di= 100mm

1/f= 1/di+1/do

1/100= 1/100 + 1/do

1/100-1/100= 1/do

1/do = 0

do= infinity

so object has to be placed at infinity
