Question
Exercise 26.38 Part A A galvanometer having a resistance of 25.0- has a 1.00- shunt resistance installed to convert it to an ammeter. It is then used to measure the current in a circuit consisting of a 15.0- resistor connected across the terminals of a 25.0-V battery having no appreciable internal resistance What current does the ammeter measure? Submit My Answers Give Up Part B What should be the true current in the circuit (that is, the current without the ammeter preser Submit My Answers Give Up Part C By what Express your answer using two significant figures t percentage is the ammeter reading in error from the true current? o error Submit My Answers Give UpExplanation / Answer
Part A)-
As per the galvanometer has resistance of 25 ohm and has 1 ohm shunt resistance to make itself into a ammeter so,
Total resistance of Ammeter will be-
1/Rammeter = (1/25 + 1/1)
Rammeter = 25/26 = 0.961 ohm
As we know that ammeter should be connected with circuit resistance to measure the current in the circuit,Then-
Circuit has a 15 ohm resistance then-
Req = R + Rammeter
Req = 15 + 0.961 = 15.961 ohm
So, current will be in circuit-
I = V/Req = 25/15.961 = 1.567 A
Part B)-
If We will not consider the Ammeter in circuit then-
Itrue = V/R = 25/15 = 1.67 A
Part C)-
Error = ( Itrue - I ) / I = (1.67 - 1.567) / 1.567
Error = 0.103/ 1.567
Error = 0.0657
% Error = 0.0657 * 100 = 6.57 %
