Date 11/17/2017 Seetion: Phys001 Test3 ID: Name: Show your work in steps and put your final answer in a Box-0, See useful Formula at the baek 1) A simple harmonic oscillator takes 12 second to undergo four complete vibrations. Find the (a) Period, (b) Frequency, (e) Angular frequency, (d) Maximum speed if the amplitude is 4 em? 2) A block of volume 4 x 10 m is suspended from a wire and is completely under water of density 1000 kg/m. a) What buoyant force acts on the block? b) Find the buoyant force on the block if oil is used instead of water? [Density of oil -800 kg/m'] 3) A fan blade rotating with initial angular velocity of 12 rad/s accelerates for a period of 5 seconds with angular acceleration of 2 rad/s. Find (a) the final angular velocity and (b) the angular displacement of the fan blade during this period?

Explanation / Answer

a) 12 second to Undergo 4 oscillations.

Period = 12 /4 = 3s (ans)

b) Frequency = 1/ Period .

= 1/3 = 0.3333333333 Hz (ans)

c) Angular frequency w = (angle in radians)X(Frequency)

=(2(pi))X(0.33333333)

= 2.09 radians per second (ans)

d) A = 4cm = 0.04m

vmax = -Aw = -0.04*2.09 = 0.0838 m/s or 8.38 cm/s (ans)
