Question
roblem 6.07 Part A in a certain lbrary the first shelf is 11 0 cm off the ground, and the remaining four shelves are each spaced 31.0 cm above the previous one if the average book has a mass of 1.40 kg with a height of 24 0 cm and an average sheitf holds 21 books (standing vertically), how much work is required to fil all the shelves, assuming the books are all laying fat on the floor to start? Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units , W 136.92 J 21 ? ContinueExplanation / Answer
From the problem the height of C.G. of a book on the
first shelf = 11 + 12 = 23 cm
second shelf = 23 + 31 = 54 cm
third shelf = 54 + 31 = 85 cm
fourth shelf = 85 + 31 = 116 cm
fifth shelf = 116 + 31 = 147 cm
So, the requisite work to lift 21 books to each shelf
= 21 *(23 + 54 + 85 + 116 + 147)/100 * (1.4) * 9.81 J
= 1225.8 J
