Question
Hi, I was wondering if you can help me with this problem.
A laser beam is directed at the flat end of a fiber optics glass with index of refraction
nf as shown in the diagram. The maximum angle of incident i = 37 if the beam is
not to escape on the other side. What is the index of refraction nf of the fiber? Take
n air = 1

(b) A lighted candle is placed 25 cm to the left of a diverging lens of focal ler A converging lens of fe = 12 cm is placed 30 cm to the right of the diverg The two-lens system forms a real inverted image 17 cm to the right of the c lens. Calculate the focal length of the diverging lens fd. (15 Pts.)Explanation / Answer
=======================================
use from Snells law
n1 sin A = nb Sin B
n1/nf = sin r /sin i
1/nf = sin r/(sin i
fron TIR,
Sin C = 1/nf as B = 90 deg
so r = 90 -c
so Sin c = sin (90-c)/sin 37
tan c = 1.6616
thus C = 59 deg
so nf = 1/sin c
nf = 1/sin 59
nf = 1.16 is the refractince index
