Question
Question 5 Part A AM radio signals have frequencies between 550 kHz and 1600 kHz (kilohertz) and travel with a speed of 3.0x108 m/s. What are the wavelengths of these signals? Express your answers using two significant figures separated by a comma. min , max Submit My Answers Give Up Part B On FM the frequencies range from 88 MHz to 108 MHz (megahertz) and travel at the same speed. What are their wavelengths? Express your answers using two significant figures separated by a comma. min, max = Im Submit My Answers Give UpExplanation / Answer
A. Here, the frequencies are v1= 5.5*10^5Hz and v2= 1.6*10^6Hz.
So, using the relation c= v, where c= given speed of wave= 3*10^8m/s and v= frequency
So, max = 1 = c / v1 = 3*10^8 / 5.5*10^5= 545.45m or 550 ( when converted to 2 sinificant figures)
min = 2 = c / v2 = 3*10^8 / 1.6*10^6= 187.5m or 190m ( when converted to 2 sinificant figures)
B. Here, frequencies are v1= 8.8*10^7Hz and v2= 1.08*10^8Hz.
So, max = 1 = c / v1 = 3*10^8 / 8.8*10^7 = 3.41m or 3.4m ( when converted to 2 sinificant figures)
min = 2 = c / v2 = 3*10^8 / 1.08*10^8 = 2.77m or 2.8m ( when converted to 2 sinificant figures)
