Question
I'm in need of help on this problem I have gotten the first part but I cannot seem to figure out the second part here's the what the question says:A vertical wheel with a diameter of 43 cm starts from rest and rotates with a constant angular acceleration of 4.7 rad/s2 around a fixed axis through its center counterclockwise. (a) Through what angle (in degrees) has the point initially at the bottom of the wheel traveled when t = 17 s? (Indicate the direction with the sign of your answer.) ° (b) What is the point's total linear acceleration at this instant? (Enter the magnitude in m/s^2.

Explanation / Answer
Diameter = 43 cm
So, radius r = 43/2 = 21.5 cm = 0.215 m
(a) theta = w0*t + (1/2)*alpha*t^2 = 0 + 0.5*4.7*17^2 = 679.15 rad.
So, theta in deg. = 679.15*360/(2*pi) = 38920 deg.
(b) w = alfa*t = 4.7*17 = 79.9 rad/s
Radial acceleration, alfa(r) = w^2*r = 79.9^2*0.215 = 1373 m/s^2
Tangential acceleration alfa(t) = 4.7*0.215 = 1.01 m/s^2
So, total linear acceleration = sqrt[alfa(r)^2 + alfa(t)^2] = sqrt[1373^2 + 1.01^2] = 1373 m/s^2
