a. Glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm of the cells.
b. (i). ATP is used up in the first stage of glycolysis. This reaction is catalysed by an enzyme hexokinase.It is the first enzyme in the glycolytic cycle which catalyses the irreversible transfer of terminal phosphoryl group from ATP to C6 position of glucose forming Glucose-6 phosphate. (Catalyses phosphorylation). Hexokinase is one of the three rate limiting enzymes of glycosis and also requires Mg2+ ions for its activity.
b.(ii). Stage C is involved in the synthesis of ATP. During glycolysis, reactions involving ATP synthesis are catalysed by Phosphoglycerate kinase and Pyruvate kinase.
