Question
can someone explain how to conceptually solve these problems????
12. A particle with unknown mass m and charge q moves with constant speed v -1.9x 10 m/s as it passes undeflected through a pair of parallel plates as shown below. The plates are separated by a distance of d 6x 10s m and a constant potential difference is maintained between them. A uniform magnetic field of magnitude B 0.2 T directed into the page exists both between the plates and in a region to the right of them. After the particle passes into the region to the right of the plates where only the magnetic field exists, its trajectory is circular with radius r = 0.1 m. Fe What is the sign of the charge of the particle? Positive VNegative NeuralCannot be determined Justify your answer. luk havt u On the diagram above, clearly indicate the direction of the electric field between a. b. the platesExplanation / Answer
if the particle is positive, from the right hand rule the magnetic force would be upward direction and the particle would curve above the plates, it’s motion is the opposite, so the particle must have a negative charge. Between the plates, the negative particle is deflected downward.
Therefore the electric field must force the negative particle up,but direction of the field is the direction a positive test charge would go so the electric field field must be down.
