Question

Need help.

Two metal plates placed parallel to each other with air between them form a device called a capacitor. When the 1.5V plates are connected in a circuit with a battery as shown, the battery voltage causes some electrons to move away from the top plate and causes some other electrons to move onto the bottom plate. Remove electrons Add electrons If 5 x 1012 electrons are removed from the top plate and added to the bottom plate, what is the unbalanced charge, in coulombs, on each plate (Remember, the elementary charge is 1.60 x 10-19 C.)

Explanation / Answer

We know that ,

number of electron = Total charge / charge on electrons

5*10^12 = total charge / 1.6*10^(-19)

Total charge = 8*10^(-7) C

so, unbalanced charge on each plate = 8*10^(-7) C
