Question
The wheels, axle, and handles of a wheelbarrow weigh W= 66.5 N. The load chamber and its contents weigh WL-637 N. The drawing shows these two forces in two different wheelbarrow designs. To support the wheelbarrow in equilibriumm, the man's hands apply a force to the handles that is directed vertically upward. Consider a rotational axis at the point where the tire contacts the ground, directed perpendicular to the plane of the paper. Find the magnitude of the man's force for both designs. LI 0.400 m 0.700 m 0.200 m b.600 mo. 700 (a) F =Explanation / Answer
(a) clock wise moment= anticlockwise moment
637 × 0.400 + 66.5 × 0.600 = F × 1.30
1.30 F = 254.8 + 39.9 = 294.7
Hence F = 294.7/1.3 = 226.69 N = 227N ( upto 3 SF)
(b) 637 passes through the point of rotation
Hence 66.5 × 0.600 = F × 1.30 = 39.9
F = 39.9/1.30 = 30.7N
