Question

When a person becomes drunk, various portions of the brain become impaired. Each of the following symptoms of drunkenness reflects impairment in a particular region of brain. Identify and discuss the part of the brain involved in each of the following symptoms. Loss of coordination Tendency to say and do things you would never do when sober Inability to remember what you did while you were drunk A person recalls a traumatic event. Her heart rate begins to increase and she Feels as if her stomach is tied in knots. From a neurological perspective, what is happening? Include the parts of the brain and nervous system that are primarily involved with this response. Humans are readily awoken by loud noises or flashing lights, but to the best of my knowledge, they are not awoken by smells. Why might this be? Consider the neurological systems involved in sound sight, smell and alertness. An individual who had been fluent in American Sign Language suffers an injury to his left cerebral hemisphere. After the injury he could still understand that sign language but could not readily generate sign language that represents his thoughts. What two hypotheses could explain this finding? How might you distinguish between them? A study was done in which a group of volunteers was asked to remember either a two digit number or a seven digit number, then walk across the hall to another room and write down that number. While walking down the hall, each of the volunteers encountered a person who offered them either a calorie rich piece of chocolate cake, or a healthy piece of fruit. The people who were asked to recall a two digit number overwhelmingly selected the fruit, while the people who were asked to recall a seven digit number overwhelmingly selected the cake. What parts of the brain are influencing these decisions?

Explanation / Answer

1. BRAIN PARTS INVOLVED IN DIFFERNT CONDITIONS:

a) LOSS OF COORDINATION:

Scientifacally we can term it as ATAXIA. Generally The cerebellum malfunctions is causing loss of coordination. The cerebellum is a part of brain tissue mainly involved in coordinating sequences of movements, if any of the part is destroyed it can lead you to the loss of coordination. so a drunk person definitely can damage this cerebellum.

b) tendency to say and do things you would never do when sober:

a drunk man and their drunk mind generally say something and do another things. Alcohol affects the Hippocampus the important memory part, or you can say the motor cortex, which is why we stumble, and also the neofrontal cortex. and here the last one is the part of the brain which is mainly responsible for reasoning and judgment so it is highly responsible of this type of symptoms.

c) Inability to remember what you did while you were drunk

It is almost same reasons and also almost the same brain portion which is involved in this condition. the main reason is that alcohol is switching off brain's memory function. During that time memory is not recorded in our brain memory tissue parts, which is gonna be complete black out. It can inhivit some receptor parts and also activate some repressor molecules which can manufactures steroids that leads to inhibition of memory function.
