Question

Had a question dealing with superpositioning dealing with mesh and or nodal. When given a circuit such as the images below,

or

are we suppose to utilize 2 superloops or supernodes, or are we suppose to only do it once?On the top problem I was able to solve it by taking a superloop on the 2Ix dependent current source. However the 12v looks like it could also be a viable spot for a supernode? Some good input would be greatly appreciated on this topic. Will make sure to 5Star quickly for good responses.

Explanation / Answer

Whenever a supernode/supermesh exists, utilize it, even if there is more than one of any. A supernode/mesh is just an equation that simplifies the analysis; the number of its occurrences is irrelevant. If you want to solve by mesh analysis, do so, even if there are supernodes. These techniques were created to simplify circuit analysis. Actually, go ahead and try solving the same circuit by both ways, once by mesh and the other by nodal. If done correctly, you should get the same answer for both. I hope this helps. :)
