Question

of all the living and non-living elements that interact with it (abiotic factors) is called: a biosphere a social system a biome a population an ecosystem The figure to the right represents which of the following (bubble all that apply) a k-selected species an r-selected species a species that is density dependent a species that is density independent Which of the following are ways males compete for mates resource control nuptial gifts for female good looks (fighting or displays) courtship rituals all of the following are ways that males compete for mates Which of the following is an example of an abiotic factor? average lifespan average litter-size rate of predation on a prey population mean annual rainfall in an ecosystem In Belding's ground squirrels, why are females much more likely than males to engage in altruistic behaviors by sounding alarm calls? Belding's ground squirrels have a sex ration that is biased toward females Females tend to remain in the area where they were born, so the females that call are warning their own kin Belding's ground squirrels have a sex ton that is biased toward males Females invest more in foraging and food storage, so they are more likely to lose their lives or their food if a predator attacks Males forage alone, so their alarm calls are useless

Explanation / Answer

I am considering 2 ques as the 1st question asked as ques 1 is not clearly visible. it has been cut from the picture.

2.The graph shows a k-selected species which is density independent.

K-selected species are the species whose population remain stable and they produce low number of offsprings and are characterized by long-gestation period and long-life spans. Their population fluctuate around “k” which is the carrying capacity of their environment. The graph shows that the population is relatively stable over time and is fluctuating around K. hence, the species shown is indeed K-selected species.

Also, this species is independent of density as there population is relatively stable over time with slight fluctuation.

Hence, correct encircle would be on option (a) and (d).
