Hello. I missed the class where we discussed S-Parameters and I need help with these questions. If you could please explain while answering, that would be fantastic.
They don't cover this in my textbook and most of the things I find online aren't really helping me.
Question: A microwave device is represented by the S-matrix figure 1. (assume system characteristic impedance is Zo=50 ohms)
Figure 1: http://i37.tinypic.com/a3cfie.jpg
The question has 2 parts:
a) Find b2 where b2 = [V+(port 2)]/(sqrt(Zo)) assuming port two is matched
b) Find the phaser form of the forward going voltage wave at port 2, V2+ = V+(port2)
Explanation / Answer
a) b2 = S(21) * a1 + S(22) * a2 = (0.2 -0.2j)*a1 + (-0.4j)*a2
We can find it for different values of a1 and a2...
b)V+(port 2) = V-(port 1)/S(12) + V-(port 2) / S(22)
where (S(11), S(22) ,S(12) and S(21) are the elements of 2*2 scattering matrix.
