Question
I'm a bit stuck on this problem. I tried calculating the centroid for the water only to find I was actually calculating it for the quarter circle whose radius is 340ft [I used L=(4R/3)]. I'm having the same problem with the concrete seawall since it shares that curved edge (y=.2x^2). I can see how I need to apply the same basic process as I did with problem 88, but I'm having trouble finding where the weights are acting. It looks like I'm going to have to put the formula in terms of x (x=5y) and integrate it from the y axis to where the water ends--though it would be easier to integrate in terms of y since we could integrate it from 0ft to 24ft. My assignment is due on Thursday at 4pm PST, so I'd appreciate getting help by Wednesday or Thurday morning so I can figure it all out. Thanks.Explanation / Answer
