Question
As a train accelerates uniformly it passes successive kilometer marks while traveling at velocities of 2 m/s and then 10 m/s. Determine the trains' s velocity when it passes the next kilometer mark and the time it takes to travel the 2-km distance. A ball is thrown with an upward velocity of 5 m/s from the top of a 10-m high building. One second later another ball is thrown vertically from the ground with a velocity of 10 m/s. Determine the height from the ground where the two balls pass each other.Explanation / Answer
Solution for problem No - 12.56)considering the initial point, v1 = 2 m/s and second point, v2 = 10 m/s distance between the two points is 1000m now the acceleration is a = (v22 - v12 ) / 2s = (102 - 22 ) / (2*1000) = 0.48 m/s2
The velocity at next point is v32 = v22 + 2as = 102 + (2*0.48*1000) = 1060
v3 = 32.56 m/s (Velocity at next kilometer mark)
time for travelling the two kilometer distance is t = (v3 - v1) / a = 63.66 sec or
t = 1.3 min
