Here is what we do: o Place the rat into a box with metal bars on the floor o Play a 20-second tone that coterminates (ends at the same time) with a shock through the bars on the floor (the shock and tone occur at the same time) o Do this multiple times o Play the tone alone and note the response in a different context the next day Please answer the following questions regarding this experimental design: What type of fear conditioning does this represent? What structure (specific portion) is vital for the convergence of UCS and CS? What is the process called when I repeatedly present the CS without the UCS? Cued and contextual fear conditioning was observed in this experiment because a foot shock has induced a freezing response "of unconditioned stimulus (US)" whereas a cue has produced conditioned stimulus (CS)
