Question

Consider the following circuit. Write down mesh current equations in terms of the three resistors R1, R2. Next assume the resistors have values R1 = 5Ohm, R2 = 10 Ohm. Use mesh current analysis to find the mesh currents i1, i2 and i3. Now use MATLAB to do a practical error analysis on the above circuit. Suppose the 5 Ohm resistor is subject to an uncertainty of 10%, and the 10 Ohm resistors are subject to an uncertainty of 5%. Calculate the values of i2 and i3 that occur when the resistors take the values 5 Ohm 10% and 10 Ohm 5% respectively. Note there are eight eases to consider. Hence give the range of values that v1 and v2 must lie within subject to these uncertainty in the resistor values. NOTE: You must provide a printout of your MATLAB session showing all the relevant inputs and outputs.

Explanation / Answer

i1=3A -R1*(i2-i1) + 5(i2-i3) - R2*(i2-i3) =0 -R2*(i3-i2) - R2*i3 -50 =0 so, -5i2 +15 + 5i2- i3 - 10i2 + 10i3 =0 or, 2i2-2i3= 3 similarly -10i3+10i2 - 10i3 - 50 =0 or, i2 - 2i3 =5 so solving equations we get i2=-2A and i3=-3.5A
