Question
[1pt] For each of the four statements, select the matching graph. E.g., if graph A corresponds to the first statement, graph C to the second, and none of the graphs to statements 3 and 4, enter ACNN.
(i) A student walks slowly to the bus stop, realizes she forgot her homework and quickly walks back home to get it.
(ii) A car starts from rest, steadily speeds up to a final speed in 15 seconds, stays at that speed for 10 seconds and decelerates to a stop in 5 seconds.
(iii) Find the v-t graph that corresponds to this graph:
(iv) A car is moving at constant speed.
Explanation / Answer
(i) student walk slowly
so initially velocity is +ve (value is less) now he stops then return . so velocity will become negative for that instant and value (in -ve) will be more than positive velocity as initally he as walking slowly then faster in opposit direction.
Grapg (B)
(Ii) for 15 min, slope of v vs t will be +v then it will be straight line parallel to x axis for 10 min then it will be line with negative slope and v becomes zero. (end at x axis.)
none graph
(iii) slope of x vs t curve will give as velocity.
1st portion is straight line (-ve value) parallel to x axis,
slope is zero so v will be zero for this time period.
2nd portion. straight line with positive slope.
so now velocity is constant (some +ve value and line parallel to x axis.)
3rd portion again velocity is zero.
Graph(D)
(iv) car moving with constant speed.
it will be straight line parallel to x axis. (for v vs t curve)
and it will be straight line with slope . (for x vs t curve)
that is graph C.
