Question

The temperature of an oven is being measured with two instruments: an analog instrument with a pointer and 500 divisions over the span (0 to 500 degree C), and a digital instrument that has the same span (0 to 500 degree C), and a digital display showing three digits. Which instrument is more accurate? Explain your answer with a statement or two Which instrument has better resolution? Explain your answer with a statement or two assuming you are measuring a true temperature of 352.35 degree C Which instrument is more precise? Explain your answer with a statement or two.

Explanation / Answer

Here Didital instrument is more accurate if we need only integer numbers. Here it is not written that it can show fractional digits like 35 in 352.35.

While taking resolution in mind if we want to take measurement of 352.35 if we use digital meter it will show only 352 to 353 reading while if we use analog meter we can take near by readings of 352.35 and if sub divisions are given we can take more accurate readings of 352.35 just like in vernier or micrometer gauges.

As the analog scale has 500 division and span is 0 to 500, each division is capable of reading of 1 C

Digital Meter is more precise than analog because in analog reading is more depends on the observer while in digital any one can say the reading on digital display. morever Digital meter uses microchips so it reduces the tendency of human error and calibration of digital meter is also easy.

Again said that only for Pure Integer values digital meter is more precise but for values like 253.7 it will show 254 or 253 only so at that time analog is more precise
