Axonometric view is a type of pictorial view where the image of an object in any projection plane is rotated about any axis. This rotation along an axis introduces the view of the third dimension which is usually hidden in an orthographic view. The degree of the rotation of an axis with respect to the other 2 axes determines the type of axonometric view. There are generally three types of axonometric views:
1) Isometric view: Isometric view is obtained by rotating the axes plane in such a way that the angle between the projection of x, y and z would be equal to 120 degrees. All the three dimensions are equally foreshortened in this view.
2) Dimetric view: Dimetric view is obtained by rotating the axes plane in such a way that the only two angle of projections are equal. This way only two dimensions are equally foreshortened.
e.g, angle between x axis and y axis be 100 degrees, between x and z be 130 degrees, and between y and z be 130 degrees.
3) Trimetric view: In this view all the three dimesnions are unequally foreshortened due to unequal angles of projections of the x, y and z axes.
e.g, angle between x and y axis be 70 degrees, between x and z be 140 degrees, and between y and z be 150 degrees.
