Question
Calculate delta H at 85C for the reaction:3H2(g) + Fe2O3(s) ------> 2Fe(s) + 3H2O(l)
Fe2O3(s): 25.0; Fe(s): 6.1; H2O(l): 18.0; H2(g): 6.9
I would appreciate some direction here. Brand new to thermodynamics...I have no idea what the quantities listed refer to, since there are no units. Since the numbers don't add up to 100, I'm thinking they're not molar fractions, and since the initial condition is 85C, I don't think they're T. I need someone who's seen this ilk before to guide me in the right direction and tell me what the question is asking and how to proceed. thanx
Explanation / Answer
H = Hreactant - Hproducts
H = (3 x 6.9 + 25) - (2 x 6.1 + 3 x 18) = -20.5
