Question 2 2. In your previous life experiences, how has water temperature affected the speed or ease at which a solid will dissolve. Give an example? 3. Formulate a hypothesis for the Alka-Seltzer lab. Typically in a IF-THEN statement. For example, IF I study diligently for this class, THEN I will get a good grade Question 4 4. The Blank 5 the water temperature, the Blank 2 the Alka- Seltzer will dissolve 5. Did the data support your hypothesis? If so, restate your original hypothesis as your conclusion. If not, rewrite your hypothesis to make an accurate concluding statement.Explanation / Answer
1. With increasing temperature the solubility of solids and liquids also increases while increasing the temperature always decreases the solubility of gases. When we add a solute to a solvent, the kinetic energy of the solvent molecules overcomes the attractive forces among solute particles. The solute particles leave the surface of the solid and move into the dissolved phase.
If we heat the solvent, the average kinetic energies of its molecules increases. Hence, the solvent is able to dislodge more particles from the surface of the solute. Thus, increasing the temperature increases the solubilities of substances. For example, sugar and salt are more soluble in water at higher temperatures.
