Question
The jets exert a vertical thrust of = (500) , where is in seconds. The total mass of the man and the jet suit is 108 . Neglect the loss of mass due to the fuel consumed during the lift which begins from rest on the ground.
find speed when t=3sec
I tried using equation
m*v1 + [integral of Fx dt] = mv2
Then from there,
[integral from 0 to 3 sec of] (500*t^(3/2)-9.8) = 108*v2
Then from calculator got v2 = 28.6 m/s
masteringengineering.com says this answers wrong, so I'm wondering where I went wrong?
Explanation / Answer
thrust* time = change in monentum
500*t = 108 * v * (mass is constant)
v = 13.88 m/s
