Question
We would also like to apply an LC 4 fit in the vertical direction between our shaft, key, and hub. but need to make sure that we can manufacture our parts precisely enough. Using the largest dimension for this fit (from the hub) as our basic size. what arc the limits of clearance from the ANSI Tables for an LC 4 fit. and how much can this fit vary (find max minus min)? We would like to mill the keyway in our shaft. Based on the shaft keyway dimension shown in the figure above, and referring back to the machining precision chart from your notes, what is the most precise tolerance we might expect from milling? We would like to broach the keyway in our hub. Will broaching provide the necessary accuracy for our assembly? Be sure to show your work to justify your answer! Note: First calculate how precise this operation must be. given the variance for our fit from (a), the tolerance from our purchased key. and the expected precision from our milling operation in (b). You can then compare your calculated value to the manufacturing precision table.Explanation / Answer
