Question

I need to be able to resolve this force into the components along y and a-a'. The angles 40 and 60 are not orthogonal so it is not simply 50 between them. I am able to to do tip-tail method to get to the law of sines but I have no clue how to know the other angles to solve for the new forces along y and a-a'. For the points, I need the new angles and the magnitude of the new forces along y and a-a'. Please show work and all steps for all the points. I need to understand what's going on in the process. Thanks.

Resolve 80-lb for into y and a-a' components Find magnitude of the vectors Note: these angles are not necessatity orthogonal

Explanation / Answer

now angle between a' and x axis is =180-(60+90)=30 deg

80lb y component= 80 sin 40=51.42 lb

80lb x component= 80 cos 40=61.28 lb

80lb a' component= 61.28 cos 30=53.07lb

80lb a component= 51.42 cos 60=25.71 lb
