Question

Two angulated tubes are connected by the manometer shown to the right. The pressure in tube B is 25 psi. The gage fluid is mercury having a specific gravity (SG) of 13.57. What is the pressure in tube A in units of (i) kPa and (ii) psi? (Pb = 25 psi)

Explanation / Answer

pB - 1000*9.8*0.8 + 13570*9.8*0.6 = pA + 1000*9.8*1.1

pB = 25 psi = 172.37 kPa

So,

172370 - 7840 + 79791.6 = pA + 10780

pA = 233541.6 Pa

= 233.54 kPa

In psi.

pA = 33.872
