Question
The two 0.22-kg sliders A and B move without friction in the horizontal-plane circular slot. Determine the magnitude of the acceleration a of each slider and the magnitude of the normal reaction force N exerted on each when the system starts from rest in the position shown and is acted upon by the 3.9-N force P. Also find the tension in the inextensible connecting cord AB.
Explanation / Answer
by constraints in motion,
both shd move wid equal acceleration on the circular track.............1
now let F is the net force on A from string.
this F/sqrt(2) is the net force on B pushing it forward.
P-F/sqrt(2) is the net force on A pushing forward.
now from .............1 ,
P-F/sqrt(2) = F/sqrt(2);
=> P=F*sqrt(2)................................2
therefore normal reaction on A is F/sqrt(2)=P/2=1.95
normal reaction on B=F/sqrt(2) = P/2 =1.95
acceleration of A=B= (F/sqrt(2))/mass A=P/2m=1.95/.22=8.8636. where m is the mass of A or B
