diameter of rods connecting the pipe to the load hangers = 0.5 in


thickness of hollow tube = .06 in

the question is :



first add 2 lb to each load hanger. ( we have 3 load hangers )


during the experiment, on the top of the pipe there is a strain rosette ( orianted 45 degrees from each other) that we used to measure the strains in three directions .

after finding the experimental values ( which i did already )


1- calculate the strains theortically . and asssume thin element at the strain rosette location


use Ex' = ( Ex+Ey)/2 + ((Ex-Ey)/2) cos 2 theta +(  &xy sin2theta )/2

(where Ex' IS the strain in any arbitary direction x')

2- include transformed strains , and all stresses calculated including pricnicple angles found.


3- draw a mohr circle .
