onstant Part A A 3.0-m-long rigid beam with a mass 150 kg is supported at each end. An 75 kg student stands 2.0 m from support 1 How much upward force does support 1 exert on the beam? (Figure 1) Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units FValue Units Submit Request Ans Figure 1 of 1 Part B How much upward force does support 2 exert on the beam? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units 2.0 m Falue Units 3.0 m Support 1 Support 2 Request Answer

Explanation / Answer

upward force is balced by down ward force

F1+F2=mg + Mg

under equilibrium condition the net torque is zero

T net = 0

Mg(L/2) + mg(d) -F2 L = 0

150(9.8) (3/2) +75(9.8) 2-F2 (3) = 0

F2 = 1225 N

rounding to two signigificant F2 = 1200 N

F1 = Mg + mg - F2

=150(9.8) +75(9.8) -1225 N

= 980 N

part A : F1 = 980 N

part B : F2 = 1200 N
