Question

Question 1 The figure shows three circuits labelled A, B, and C. All thin -filament bulbs, capacitors, and batteries are identical. The capacitors are initially uncharged. In each circuit the batteries are connected for a short time T and then diconnected. T is short enough that the capacitors are only 10%charged so that the brightness of the bulb remains constant. Explain your reasoning to each part of the question. (a) In which circuit does the capacitor have the most charge? (b) In which circuit does the capacitor have the least charge? (c) How bright would the bulb be in circuit A if the capacitor were allowed to be fully charged?

Explanation / Answer

All three circuits A,B and C haev same amount of voltage but they all have different different Values of Req and Ceq in circuit, as

Circuit A)-

Req = R and Ceq = C

Circuit B)-

Req = 2R and Ceq = C

Circuit C)-

Req = R/2 and Ceq = C

Because of the Values of Req, current in the circuits would be-

iB < iA < iC

Than-

QB < QA < QC (solution of Part a & b)

Now

Part c)-

If Capacitor get fully charged than it will behave like Eeq of circiut A.

Energy in buld will be 4time greater because Eeq gets doulbed in the circuit.
