Question

A. Which individual above (Maria or Laura) had the greater pancreatic response to the OGTT? How do you know?

B. write a grammatically correct sentence describing the relationship between blood glucose and blood insulin levels.

The following data show blood insulin levels that correspond to the blood glucose levels in the OGTT in the previous example Time (minutes) Maria Blood Glucose (mg/dL) Maria Blood Insulin (pmol/L) Laura Blood Glucose (mg/dL) Laura Blood Insulin (pmol/L) 0 30 60 90 120 90 140 150 135 110 45 140 200 220 150 110170 220 270 300 25 60 80 85 90

Explanation / Answer

Answerr-

A.

Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) shows how well our body handles sugar from foods.

Maria has greater pancreatic responseto the OGTT.

Because the secretion of insulin is more and gradually increases over time and the blood glucose level maintained accoring to normal range of glucose needed. That means insulin secretion in response to glucose level in blood is good. IF we compare Maria with Laura, the secretion/synthetic response of insulin is not cooperative enough to take the glucose from blood. So blood glucose level increases over time from 110 mg/ml to 300 in case of Laura..

B.

The relation between the blood glucose level and insulin level is very close and interdependent.

Glucose is a simple sugar, a carbohydate that is found in the blood and commonly referred to as blood glucose where as insulin is a protein hormone that accesses the increasing blood sugar and converts it into energy.

When blood glucose level increases in normal healthy person, insulin in blood takes care to convert the blood glucose into glycogen. But in diabetic condition insulin in blood decreases, so blood glucose level increases as insulin is not sufficient to convert it itnto energy form/glycogen.
