Question

Find the current through and potential differences across each resistor in the figure below. In the figure R1=4, R2-2, R3-5, Ka-7 3 2 4 (a) The current 11 through Ri is The potential difference AVR, downstream-Vupstream across R1 is Submit Answer Tries 0/10 b) The current2 through R2 IS The potential difference AVR, across R2 is Tries 0/10 Submit Answer (C) The current3 through R3 IS The potential difference AVR across R3 is Submit Answer Tries 0/10O (d) The current /4 through R4 is The potential difference ½ across R4 is Submit Answer Tries 0/10

Explanation / Answer

a)

Net resistance of the circuit = R1 + (R3 + R4) || R2

= 4 + (5 + 7) || 2

= 4 + 12 || 2

= 4 + 12*2/(12+2)

= 5.71 ohm

So, current I1 = 10/5.71 = 1.75 A <-------- answer

Vr1 = 1.75*4 = 7 V <------- answer

b)

I2 = (10 - 1.75*4 )/2 = 1.5 A

Vr2 = (10 - 1.75*4 ) = 3 V

c)

I3 = 1.75 - 1.5 = 0.25 A

Vr3 = 0.25*5 = 1.25 V

d)

I4 = 0.25 A

Vr4 = 0.25*7 = 1.75 V
