300 h a 1.20 m h 300 m x = 5.00 meters- 4) As shown above, a small steel ball is shot at an inclination of 30.0° from a table with a top which is 1.20 meters above the kitchen floor. The ball flys into the adjacent living room and lands in the middle of the top of above the floor. Neglect air friction. a. What was the inital speed of the ball? b. What minimum height above the floor must the ceiling be if the ball is to "clear" the ceiling at it a small coffee table which is 5.00 meters horizontally from the launch point of the ball and 30.0 cm highest point of flight?

Explanation / Answer

(A) in horizontal,

x = (v0x) t

5 = (v0 cos30) t

v0 t = 5/cos30 .... (i)

In vertical,

yf - yi = v0y t + ay t^2 /2

0 - 1.20 = (v0 sin30) t - 9.8 t^2 / 2

- 1.20 = (5 / cos30) sin30 - 4.9 t^2

t = 0.913 sec

putting in(i)

v0 = 6.32 m/s

(B) Hmax = 1.20 + ( 6.32 sin30)^2 / (2 x 9.8)

= 1.71 m
