Problem 21.57- Enhanced with Feedback - Copy Consider the circuit shown in the figure(Figure 1). Suppose the four resistors in this circuit have the values R1 = 13 , R. 7.7 , R3-6.3 , and R4-15 , and that the emf of the battery is E 18 V. You may want to review (Pages 748-751) Part A Find the current through each resistor using the rules for series and parallel resistors. Explanation / Answer

R2 and R4 are in series

R = 7.7 + 15 = 22.7 ohm

22.7 ohm and 6.3 ohm are in parallel

R = 22.7*6.3 / (22.7 + 6.3)

= 4.93 ohm

4.93 ohm and 13 ohm are in series

R(equi) = 4.93 + 13 = 17.93 ohm

I = V/R(equi) = 18/17.93 = 1 A

Current through R1 = 1A

Current through R2 and R4 = 1*6.3/ (22.7 + 6.3)

= 0.217 A

Current throguh R3 = 1*22.7 / (22.7 + 6.3)

= 0.785 A
