Question

Explain your answers using short concise sentences a. Daisy is driving past her house. She wants to toss her physics book out the 3 window and have it land in her driveway. If she lets go of the book exactly as she passes the end of the driveway, should she direct her throw outward and toward the front of the car (throw 1), straight outward (throw 2), or outward and toward the back of the car (throw 3)? Explain. Dasiy Daisy and Ruby are driving down the freeway side by side with their windows down. Daisy wants to toss her physics book out the window and have it land in Ruby's front seat. Should she direct her throw outward and toward the front of the car (throw 4), straight outward (throw 5), or outward and toward theDasiy back of the car (throw 6)? b.

Explanation / Answer

a. The book has a velocity same as that of the car. So, when it is thrown out, it conserves this speed. So, she should throw it outward and toward the back of the car(throw 3), then only, due to the virtue of the velocity it has, it will travel forward (towards car's direction) and reaches the driveaway which is at rest.

b. The book has a velocity same as that of the cars, awhich is conserved here also. But here it has to reach the car which is also moving in the same speed. So, she should direct her throw outward and straight outward(throw 5), then only it traves the same distance in air as the Ruby's car, till it reaches there.
