Explanation / Answer

Consider the right angled traingles formed with angle 60 deg and 15 deg

The X and Y components from each will be:

X:

X(60) = 39 cos60 = 19.5 km

X(15) = 27 cos15 = 29.1 km

Y:

Y(60) = 39 sin60 = 33.8 km

Y(15) = 27 sin15 = 7 km

Xnet = 19.5 + 29.1 = 48.6 km

Ynet = 33.8 + 7 = 40.8 km

R = sqrt (48.6^2 + 40.8^2) = 63.46 km

Hence, R = 63.46 km

angle = theta = tan^-1(40.8/48.6) = 40 deg

Hence, theta = 40 deg
