Explanation / Answer

The body starts from rest( inital velocity = 0 ), and accelerates for 10.4 seconds [ first 5.2 sec + 2nd 5.2 sec ]

for First 5.2 sec,

final velocity = u + a (5.2)

= 0 + 5.2 a

final velocity = 5.2 a, this is also initial velocity for 2nd 5.2 seconds

for total 10.4s

final velocity = 0+ 10.4 a

v= 10.4a

for 2nd 5.2 sec

initial velocity = final velocity of first 5.2s = 5.2 a

final velocity = 10.4a

distance travelled (s)= 160m( given)

by equation, v^2 = u^2 + 2 * a s

(10.4a)^2 = (5.2a)^2 + 2 *a*160

on solving,

a = 2 * 160 / ( 3 * 5.2^2)

= 3.944 m/s^2

Now , for first 5.2 s

distance = ut+1/2at^2

= 0+ 1/2 * (3.944) * (5.2)^2

= 53.32 m
