Question
Newtons Law of Cooling and Radiation Lab
I'm doing a lab on newtons law of cooling and radiation, and its basically us heating an aluminuim cylinder(blacked out, e=1), and waiting for it to cool down, and see how long it takes.
The purpose of the lab is to experimentally find the value of Boltzmann's constant which is theoretically 5.67x10^-8
I got from 2 runs, that its 8.27x10^-8 and 1.32x10^-7, 45.85% and 132.80% error respectively. I'm thinking of possible causes of error, and all I can think of is that the aluminum cylinder wasn't a complete and perfect black body, therefore the emissivity e wasn't equal to 1, so it threw off my calculations. I cannot think of anything else, any help would be appreciated!
Explanation / Answer
firstly 5.67 *10^-8 is not Boltzmans constant
its stefans constant.
Emissitivty of aluminium vaires fromis 0.039 to 0.057
hence it could have made some errror in your calculations
