1. A force of 45.6 N is applied to a 2.00 kg disc. What is the acceleration of the disk?

2. Find the force that produces an acceleration of 6.4 m / s2 to a mass object of 0.50 kg.

3. A train traveling with an initial speed of 200 km / h reduces its speed until it stops after traveling a distance of 4820 m. (a) Determine its acceleration in m / s2. (b) What is the net force exerted by the engine to stop the train if its mass is 8.63 x 105 kg?

Explanation / Answer

1)

force = 45.6 N

mass = 2.00 Kg

use:

a = force / mass

= 45.6 N / 2.00 Kg

= 22.8 m/s^2

Answer: 22.8 m/s^2

2)

a = 6.4 m/s^2

mass = 0.50 Kg

use:

force = mass*a

= 0.50 Kg * 6.4 m/s^2

= 3.2 N

Answer: 3.2 N

3)

a)

vi = 200 km/h

= 200*1000 m/3600 s

=55.56 m/s

vf = 0 m/s

d = 4820 m

use:

vf^2 = vi^2 + 2*a*d

0 = 55.56^2 + 2*a*4820

a = -0.320 m/s^2

Answer: -0.320 m/s^2

b)

F = m*a

= (8.63*10^5 Kg) * (-0.320 m/s^2)

= -2.76*10^5 N

Answer: -2.76*10^5 N
