Question
Chapter 2, Problem 73. Constant Acceleration Figure 2-42 shows the velocity vs. time graph for an object constrained to move along a line. The positive direction is to the right -1 2 0 1 2 34 5 6 78 9 10 1 12 Time (s) FIGURE 2-42 Problems 71-74. (a) At what times, or during what time periods, is the object's acceleration zero? (b) At what times, or during what time periods, is the object's acceleration constant? (c) At what times, or during what time periods, is the object's acceleration changing? If there is no time or time period for which a given condition exists, state that explicitly.Explanation / Answer
We have been given the graph of velocity with time.
So, we know that,
a=dV/dt
Which means acceleration is the slope of velocity-time graph.
(a)
So now, zero acceleration means, the slope of the curve should be zero
So it is zero between the interval
4-6 seconds and 8-10 seconds .
(b)
Constant acceleration means , constant slope,
0-4 seconds, 6-8 seconds and 10-12 seconds.
(c)
There is no such time where acceleration is changing with time, as we can see velocity is varying only linearly with time.
