Question
the velocity of a package traveling along the axis is shown as a unction of time in the figure below. I the package is at x-O when t = , answer the following (m/s) 20 10 t (s) 10 15 -10 (a) What is the objects acceleration (n m/s2) between O and 4.00 s7 (indicate the direction with the sign of your answer.) (b) What is the object's acceleration (in m's2 between 4.00 s and 9.00 s? (indicate the direction with the sign of your answer.) (e) What is the objects acceleration (in m/s2) between 12.0 s and 18.0 s? (Indicate the direction with the sign of your answer.) m/s2 (d) At what time(s) (in s) is the object moving with the lowest speed? (If there is more than one time, enter the times from smallest to largest. If there is only one time, enter O in the second box.) s (smaller value) s (larger vakue) (e) At what time (in s) the object farthest from x-07 what is the final position X (in m) of the object at t-18s? (g) Through what total distance (in m) has the object moved between t O and t 18 s?Explanation / Answer
a) as acceleration = a = dv/dt
between 0 to 4s, the velocity remains constant ===> so acceleration = a = 0 m/s2
b) between 4s to 9s ======> dv = 12 - (-8) = 20 m/s
dt = 9 - 4 = 5s
Then a = dv/dt = 20/5 = 4 m/s2
c) between 12s to 18s ======> dv = 0 - (12) = -12 m/s
dt = 18-12 = 6s
Then a = dv/dt = -12/6 = -2 m/s2
(negative acceleration means de-acceleration)
d) object moving with lowest speed at t = 6s and t = 18s
