2. [1pt] Answer True, False, or Cannot tell to each of the five statements below. E.g., if the answer to the first statement is true' and to the rest, cannot tell', enter TCCCC a. Mass and weight describe the same thing, although in different units. b. A box with a 100 kg passenger is catapulted straight into the air. The passenger's C. An astronaut stands on a bathroom scale on the surface of Jupiter; the scale does not d. You are standing on a jet-powered platform that can move straight up or down. Your true weight is zero once the box is airborne. read the astronaut's true weight. apparent weight is greater than your true weight if the platform is descending and slowing down e. Two 3 kg balls are each dropped from a tower, one on the moon, the other one on Earth. During the fall, the net forces on each are the same.Explanation / Answer

a) mass is the quantity of matter in a body and it does not change with respect to external factors. Weight on the other hand, is the amount of the force a body is acting on the planet = mass*acceleration due to gravity. Hence both aren't same.
b) Once on air, no force is acted by object on the earth. Hence true weight is zero.
c) Weight differs from planet to planet because it is dependant on acceleration due to gravity g which is planet specific.
d) When jet goes down, both the weight and Normal force act downwards adding up to the actual weight.
e) Forces are again the weights and moon and earth have different g and hence different forces.
