Question

List the information you have, facts you are asked to calculate, information not given but needed, and information not needed. 5) You are in a boat that uses four gallons of gas per hour, travels at six miles per hour and has ten gallons of gas. Can you make it across the lake to the other shore which is 14 miles away? How long will it take? 6) You are making lunch for 12 teenagers. You plan to give each a "quarter pound" cheeseburger (ie. 4 burgers per pound of hamburger), a bag of chips and a can of coke. How many packs of buns, pounds of hamburger and pounds of cheese do you need?

Explanation / Answer

Answer for question no. 5)

Available informations:

1. Usage of gas in boat = 4 gallons per hour

2. Speed of boat = 6miles per hour

3. Available gas in boat = 10 gallons

4. Distance to be covered to rach other shore = 14 miles

Facts, we need to calculate:

1. Time taken by boat to reach other shore = (14 /6) hr = 2.33 hour

It will consume 4 * 2.33 = 9.33 gallon gas to cover this distance which is less than available 10 gallon gas

Based on above analysis, we will say that all the information needed to calculate have been given and we can that there is no infomation which is not needed.

NOTE- There may be some more information if it is not given we are assuming :

1. Boat is able to run at constant speed theoughout its travel.

2. Boat travelled in the shortest path (which is 14 miles)

Above note is not a part of your answer. It is just for your understanding.
